1952 The Ethicon SURGICEL® Absorbable Hemostat (1952) is a sterile, loose-knit hemostatic dressing composed of oxidized regenerated cellulose (ORC). Designed for use as an adjunctive agent in surgery, it provides effective control of capillary, venous, and small arterial bleeding when conventional methods such as ligation or cauterization are not feasible. This ready-to-use absorbable hemostat helps achieve rapid hemostasis in areas of continuous oozing. Fully absorbable within 7–14 days, SURGICEL® conforms easily to tissue surfaces and supports a clean surgical field. Sterilized by irradiation, it ensures reliable, safe, and efficient bleeding control across multiple surgical specialties.
