1963 The Ethicon SURGICEL® Absorbable Hemostat (1963) is a soft, lightweight, layered hemostatic dressing composed of oxidized regenerated cellulose (ORC). It is designed for adjunctive control of capillary, venous, and small arterial bleeding when conventional techniques such as ligation or cautery are not feasible. This ready-to-use absorbable hemostat conforms easily to tissue surfaces and provides rapid hemostasis in continuous oozing situations. Completely absorbed within 7–14 days, SURGICEL® helps maintain a clear surgical field while supporting natural wound healing. Sterilized by irradiation and stored at controlled room temperature, it delivers reliable, consistent performance across open and minimally invasive procedures.
