SURGIFOAM® Absorbable Gelatin Sponge, 8x12.25cm x 10mm
1974 The Ethicon SURGIFOAM® Absorbable Gelatin Sponge (1974) is a sterile, water-insoluble, malleable hemostatic agent made from porcine gelatin. It is designed for adjunctive control of capillary, venous, and arteriolar bleeding during surgery when standard techniques—such as pressure or ligation—are ineffective or impractical. SURGIFOAM® can be used dry or saturated with sterile saline and conforms easily to irregular surfaces for optimal contact and clot formation. When used in combination with thrombin, it can further enhance hemostatic efficiency. This absorbable sponge is completely resorbed within 4–6 weeks, minimizing foreign body reaction and promoting clean wound healing.
