SURGICEL® Original Hemostat, 2x3 inches
1953 The Ethicon SURGICEL® Absorbable Hemostat (1953) is a sterile, loose-knit surgical dressing made from oxidized regenerated cellulose (ORC). It is used as an adjunctive hemostatic agent to control capillary, venous, and small arterial bleeding when conventional techniques—such as ligation or cautery—are not feasible or effective. This ready-to-use, absorbable hemostat provides rapid hemostasis in cases of continuous oozing and conforms easily to irregular tissue surfaces. The material is fully absorbed within 7–14 days, ensuring a clean surgical field and supporting natural healing. SURGICEL® hemostats are trusted by surgeons worldwide for their efficacy, reliability, and versatility across multiple surgical specialties.
