1979 SURGIFOAM® Absorbable Gelatin Powder Kit (Part Number 1979) from ETHICON is a sterile, absorbable porcine gelatin powder indicated for adjunctive hemostasis in surgical procedures (excluding ophthalmic use). Supplied as a 1 gram kit, the product is intended for control of capillary, venous, and small arteriolar bleeding when conventional methods such as ligature or pressure are ineffective or impractical. When saturated with sterile sodium chloride solution, the gelatin powder provides a physical matrix that supports platelet adhesion and aggregation, assisting in the formation of a stable clot. The material is fully absorbable, typically within approximately 4 to 6 weeks.
